My first question would be is, "Are you taking the
minerals along with the grains, or are you taking them
separate from the grains"?

I can't answer this with authority, but I believe at
least a portion must be assimilated or we would have
epidemic mineral deficit diseases in our dog
population.
I read an interesting "article-vertisement" in an
issue of DogWorld that outlines which fillers are
"bad" to have in dogfood, and which ones seem to be
tolerated OK by dogs. Funny, wheat and corn are
no-no's, while rice seems to be an acceptable "doggy
grain".
