A friend asked me to fix their daughter's PC. While she was at
college, someone installed a network card on her PC and since then all
heck broke loose. Her CDROM would not work and neither would her
sound. I removed the network card, both physically and through WIN95.
I also ran WIN95 system "diagnostics" such as scan disk and defrag.
Still no sound or CDROM. Also, in System Properties under "Hard Disk
Controllers" it lists a CMD PCI 0640 PCI to IDE Controller. However,
under this the "Primary" and "Secondary" have exclamations next to
them and it is "single FIFO".
FYI: Packard Bell Pack-Mate 7120 1.0 GB 120Mhz 16 MB RAM and 8X
CDROM.
Then, I went into setup and set-up the CD ROM. In WIN95, I can see
the CDROM and use it; however, under system properties, it does not
list the CDROM.
Then, in safe mode I removed "everything" and restarted WIN95 several
times as WIN95 loaded the hardware. Still no sound, no CDROM and the
hard drive is listed as above in System Properties.
help! What can I do next?
Joe
