Hi All, I just joined the group and I'm not sure if I'm doing this all
correctly, but here goes. Both my sons have IDDM, the older one is 23,
diagnosed at age 3; the younger one is 17, diagnosed at age 1. They both
have hypothyroidism. The younger one was also just diagnosed with Celiac
Disease. I'm feeling rather overwhelmed with all the new things we have
to learn about. What frustrates me a lot about both diseases are all the
"hidden" sources of gluten and sugar in the things we eat in our
society! I'm quite concerned about how Justin is going to manage all
this when he goes away to college, but he does have a good attitude and
is trying to learn everything as fast as my husband and I are. We would
be interested in hearing from and about other college students and young
adults (my older son moved out on his own 4 months ago, and lives
thousands of miles away, so he has to rely on himself to cook and eat
healthily). Thanks for any encouragement you can give us.--Kathy S.
