If Compaq told you only 48 then I would believe them. Compaq makes a good
but proprietary product and only they know for sure what the specifications
of the board are. I shouldn't hurt anything to try ...it just won't post or
won't see the extra RAM.....but it might be an expensive test.

I have a Presario 2240, Compaq says I can only take the RAM up to 48
