The 'hosts' file converts TCP/IP host names to IP addresses; it provides
a cheap substitute for DNS. The 'lmhosts' file converts NetBIOS names to
IP addresses; it provides a cheap substitute for WINS.
The NetBIOS name is set under Control Panel|Network|Identification. The
host name is set under Control Panel|Network|TCP/IP|Properties|DNS
Configuration.
