Was this fresh milk, or perhaps a ferment?

Milk is commonly given to neutralise acids that have been ingested.  I think
the 'acidic' label is meant to relate to the effect on the body that milk
might have after its been digested.

Note also that dairy can have an effect on the immune system for many people
(except mainly type B's).
