Disk Defragmenter may provide a slight performance improvement for
data files (but rarely does much for program files), and can take a
very long time on a large disk without much free space. It would take
a lot of heavy use to justify running it more than once a month.
Scandisk, though, finds actual *problems*, and it should only find
them occasionally. So scheduling it to run overnight, every night, is
entirely sensible, and at least once a week is probably prudent.
Both of these suggestions are subject to adjustment based on the kind
of use your machine gets, so there's no simple single "right" answer.
