Dave: The Cyrix chips have a relatively "weak" floating point unit,
making them a poor choice for 3D games such as Quake. An ideal,
inexpensive upgrade would be to an AMD K6-2 chip (300 MHZ is available
at 66 MHZ, so you don't have to upgrade the mobo) and either the
Banshee, or a 12 MB Voodoo 2 add-on card. An optimized 3Dnow! patch for
Quake is available, which gives the K6-2 "Pentium2" perfomance in this
game. Additionally 3DFX has released 3DNOW! enhanced drivers for the
Voodoo2 add-ons.
My advice-1st the processor, and shortly thereafter the vidcard shortly
thereafter, the Virge is a relatively poor 3D game renderer.
