111 Eighth Ave.-
A monster building built evidently as  a Con-Ed [ NYC public utility,
gas, electric & steam]
maintenance warehouse & offices during the depression-
or maybe started in the late 20's & finished later-
Freight elevators that were rated to carry a full size Con-Ed truck
upstairs to the parts department
seems to me someone told me that they would carry 35,000 lbs.

Anecdotally- was told recently that the concrete floor mix  contains
iron filings for strength.
I don't think we're talking the little ones that you use to put the
beard on the bald guy in that
pre-battery game. but something more akin to 10d nails.
& have been told by electricians that they are having a bear of a time
coring for new risers.
