I am in much agreement.
Akemi polyester resin is great for interior repairs, especially for
polished colored marbles and granites. It is used widely in the stone
veneer and countertop industry as an adhesive
Akemi polyester resin is just about useless for exterior repairs. It
breaks down quickly in UV and freeze thaw and pops off.
Repair of colored polished stones in exterior settings has always been
problematic. Epoxies are the most stable but usually come in a drab gray
state which is not conducive to good color matching and polishing.
I understand Akemi has just come out with a clear epoxy, suitable for
exterior work. Can't wait to try it.
Epoxies are the thing for structural repairs (dutchman) which are
exposed to the elements. Sika is very reliable, as is Hilti and Rawl. I
usually keep the epoxy back from the surface of a repair and grout the
exposed seams. Grouts have a much more pleasing appearence and tend to
weather at a similar rate as the surrounding stone.
