It's a good story, but it's apocryphal; we have a Paddington Bear book where
exactly the same thing happens to Paddington, except that he's trying to
paint the ceiling of his new bedroom. He attaches a rope to a hook in the
lighting rosette, ties a full bucket of paint on the rope, climbs up a
ladder and... well you get the picture. He ultimately gives up on the idea
of painting the room and winds up wallpapering himself in, requiring a
rescue. Great story!
