An architect made an interesting comment last night at a symposium - he
said that the "modern" architectural education he received back in the
60s expected creativity to spring from student's mind without any
input. He has since spent a lot of time learning about Beaux Arts
traditions both style and method... I always thought that the "modern"
style and method of teaching was oppressive and here was someone to tell
me at least in his case i was right not to mention that at UVA I saw
students drowning in the modern dogma against learning or referring to
history in their work.
