I see what the problem is. When I read:

I took it to mean that lactic acid is produced in a big pot of whey *and*
cornstarch *and* potatoes *and* molasses, not either a pot of whey *or* a pot of
cornstarch *or* a pot of potatoes *or* a pot of molasses.
After finding out, basically one ingredient at a time, how to get milk out of our
diets, katherinez's list was like finding the secret code! I must admit, the
minute we started applying the list, including *all* sodium steroyl lactylate,
they boys' asthma all but disappeared.
