Or how about instead of putting the cabinet in the basement, would it be
possible to move it to where the table is now?  Still get to keep the same
amount of cupboard space and get the dishwasher too (which could still have
a wooden front, if so desired).

I like Ken's suggestion, too about letting the spigot upstairs take care of
the stacked dishes.  This would appeal to the Kosher buyers - 3 days of
running water on the Seder dishes.

With certainty you must put the dishwasher in place of the cabinet and
drawer. Take out the cabinet and put it in the basement. Moving the table
and installing new plumbing will destroy original fabric -- floor, joists,
you name it.
