This is not fiction. One day I stopped at a client's office, a real estate
developer, to find them in somewhat of a tizzy as the city had removed 2 of
their buildings without their knowledge. These were not small buildings, but 4
story masonry structures. They only found out that morning when one of the
partners happened to drive by the site, going elsewhere, and realized the
buildings were gone. Checking their records they realized the city had warned
them, but the paperwork had gotten shuffled. They had 398 buildings left and
laughed off the incident as a fluke.
