PROJECTS MANAGER, PRESERVATION AND CONSTRUCTION
The Minnesota Historical Society seeks a knowledgeable and skilled Projects
Manager to manage preservation and construction projects at historic sites.
The Projects Manager will be responsible for projects ranging in contract
value from <$1000.00 to $500,00.00. Projects managed will vary from minor
repairs and preventative maintenance on contemporary museum buildings to large
scale research and restoration projects. The Projects Manager works under the
direction of the Preservation and Construction Manager and through site
managers, maintenance staff, consultants and contractors. This is a full-time
project position located at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul, MN
subject to renewal each June 30, dependent upon available funding and program
need.
SUMMARY OF WORK: Major responsibilities include: 1) observe, document and
report preservation and maintenance needs; 2) act as agent for the
Preservation and Construction Manager, manage construction contracts and
consultant services contracts; 3) prepare project estimates, record and
report project costs and progress; 4) support and consult site management and
staff; 5) contribute to the continued development of the Historic Sites
Department’s Preservation and Construction work; and 6) perform related work
as apparent or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelors degree in architecture, engineering or construction management and
two years of experience in architecture, historic preservation, construction
management, facility management or a closely related field; OR a masters
degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or facilities
management and one year of experience in architecture, historic preservation,
construction management, facility management or a closely related field; OR
an equivalent combination of training and experience which qualifies one to
perform this work.
o Knowledge of historic building preservation practices and standards.
o Experience managing construction contracts valued from <$5,000.00 to
>$250,000.00
o Strong verbal, written and graphic communication skills.
o Strong project management skills.
o Knowledge of contracting principles.
o Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel statewide.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
o Knowledge and training in preservation of Historic Buildings.
o Ability to work with architects, consultants, contractors, and a wide
variety of technicians and professionals.
o Understanding of the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Historic
Preservation, Restoration, and Rehabilitation and how to interpret these
standards.
o Familiarity with the National Park Services Preservation Briefs.
o Ability to manage multiple complex and simple projects.
o Knowledge and skill in verbal, written, graphic and mathematics
communication.
o General knowledge of Minnesota History.
o Ability to prepare design and construction documents.
SALARY: $ 2,803 monthly minimum
