Some Alpine skiiers wear a foam pad (about 3/8 thick, maybe 18 wide by
24 inches long) hanging from their backsides to keep their tushes from
getting cold when they sit on the (sometimes wet) chairlift seats. They
look pretty foolish in my opinion but I'm sure they do the job quite
well. I'm guessing they hold it up with some sort of belt or
suspenders.
I've never heard of sit-upons--do they have a similar purpose? Are they
filled with newspaper?

According to one woman who works for me, yes GS still make sit-upons.
The
boys in the troop look at me funny when I mention them. Like I have 2
heads. Who in their right mind would make a seat they attach to their
backside, they think out loud. I've considered buying some vinyl and
getting my newspaper recycling bin out to show them about this very
practical device.
