I've never seen this before, so I thought I'd ask for a second
opinion before I drew my own conclusions.
A gentleman brought in his computer this morning, and complained
that the computer will not boot. It hangs in the 98 splash
screen. He wanted a full backup made first, so I removed the hard
drive, to do this. In the process, I also removed the floppy
drive cable.
When I put everything back together and turned the computer on,
the speaker beeped continuously and the whole screen was red.
After some trial and error, I have found that the computer works
fine as long as there is no floppy drive cable attached. I tried
a new floppy drive, and new drive cable with no results. In fact,
if I have a floppy cable attached, but no drive on the end I
still have the same problem.
Is it safe to assume that this is the floppy drive controller on
the motherboard?
