Powerquest also has a couple programs for file recovery, "Lost and Found,"
and "Search and Rescue." There is a free demo for the former and the cost
is reasonable and it handles both FAT 16 and FAT 32, LS 120, Jaz and Zip--it
is limited for use with only ONE machine though. The latter is meant for
pro use but allows you to search for particular files for rescue(rather than
scan the entire drive)and can be used on other machines as well. They offer
also a 60-day guarantee. Tiramisu is considerably more expensive and offer
no refunds.
Another program that is very inexpensive is "Hardware Mechanic" that makes
many claims for file recovery.
I can't comment on the quality of recovery for any of these, but I have
ordered Search And Rescue and will report to the list after use(I have a
crashed HD drive that needs some files rescued, and some bad floppys). I
did try Norton's utilities without result.
