One of the main reasons that Intel put the P-II on what is
called the SLOT-1 configuration was to eliminate competition.
AMD and Cyrix have continued developing P-II equivalent chips
using the the original SLOT-7 configuration.
The answer to your questions is that there are no special
needs. Your current fan will fit. AND you will be suprised
to find that a K6-300 runs =much= cooler than your old P166.
The same applies to a K6-2 (the new 3D model).
