Once again the controversial subject of overclocking comes up...I'm
considering upgrading my system and have debated getting an AMD K6-2 350MHz
but have recently ran across several articles on overclocking a Celeron
300MHz to 450MHz. I wanted to check with the list to see if anyone had any
experience with this and what your results were. As I understand it, the
Celeron 300/300A has a locked multiplier (set at 4.5) but on a BX mobo can
be set at 450MHz since it has the same basic .25 micron core as the PII
Deschutes models (350-450MHz). It is a temptation considering the price of
the Celeron 300MHz is only $89. The Celeron 300A has a 128k cache
(therefore a little better performance) and costs $167. There have been
some articles regarding Intels attempt to defeat overclocking on these
CPU's but am not sure if it really applies to O'Cing the bus speed. I am
considering doing this with an ASUS P2B mobo w/ PC100 memory and welcome
any comments; thanks!
