To make sure there is nothing wrong with your fax modem have Modem Doctor
test it. This Dos utility can be found on the PCBUILD page and many other
software sites. The shareware version will run a series of tests on your
fax and modem to insure they are setup and working correctly. the Shareware
version will only test to 2400 bps but your not concerned about speed at
this point.....you just want to make sure it is working correctly.

Are you running the latest version of Winfax ? I believe the latest patch
creates Winfax 8.03. Is this a USR Sportster ? The 280,00 Sportster Fax and
Winfax 8 have some comparability problems which is why I gave mine to my
sister.

There is also a Symantecs Winfax user group if your news server carries it.
