Hmmm,
I just worked on a computer tonight with strange port problems. The
machine had comm ports on the MB and an ISA controller-I/O card. Without
the card, mouse didn't work. With the card, mouse didn't work, plugged
into either connection. I disabled the ports on the MB, and reinstalled
the card, plugged the mouse into the card, and voila! It worked. This one
really threw me cause the I/O card is old, and I thought comm 1 was
disabled. Oh, well. Maybe you can get your hands on a cheap serial card,
disable the MB port, and try that.
