I don't know about the dairy aspects of this, but almost all spaghetti
sauces have hydrolyzed protein (from some undisclosed protein source) in
them. It is labeled as flavorings or natural flavors, and/or is a
sub-ingredient of tomato paste (remember ingredients of ingredients need
not be listed in the US). One that doesn't is Five Brothers, as they made a
decision in 1991 to stop putting HVP/MSG in. Some of the Five Bothers
obviously have dairy, but the others don't.
