> Thieves busted in the screens of two monitors.
If just the front of the tube is broken, there is a good chance that the
circuit board and case are salvageable. Unfortunately, most of the value
is in the tube.
Look in your business/industrial - consumer/household yellow pages for
"monitor repair" under computer service/television repair. Look for
the manufacturer's authorized service. Telephone them, identify the
monitor, describe the damage - Was it on when it was broken? Was it
broken by throwing it out the window?, etc. Ask for their opinion.
You may have to bring it to them to get a quotation.
You could also try a local, non-authorized repair shop if you have
satisfied yourself - on the basis of previous experience or a
recommendation - that they can handle it. For example, I know of a
local second-hand electronics store that repairs and sells dozens of
monitors each week. (They might even offer you a little cash or a
discount on an upgrade if you deal with them.)
Get a couple of quotations - then you can choose what to do.
Replacing a Cathode Ray Tube is not a good do-it-yourself project
unless you are an experienced monitor/TV repairman, A mistake
can maim or kill.
