Yes, also Saturn, Orion and Sirius. Crescent moon conjunction was great, too.
Did you observe Shoemaker-Levy impact on Jupiter four years ago - through my
4" I could see big black smudges.
In 1972, when I was driving in from Long Island with Maggi Newhouse, I saw
naked eye sunspots. And in 1967, in Concord, NH, I observed a large meteor
with a visibly orange trail (very rare) and smoke (also rare) break apart into
two.
