Grapes that you harvest yourself are indeed satisfying, but I was
comparing French with American store-bought grapes, which are
harvested before maturity: they are both relatively bland, but at
least, Californian grapes are sweet (due to climate? soil? variety
selection?).

In the same vein, I had always hated cherries... until I tried fully
ripe ones bought at an Italian market (Rome).
