Liza,

I assume you do eat instinctively? "Stops" that people experience are
usually a taste change or other sensation of the food becoming
unpleasant where, previously (moments before) it was enjoyable. Like
Stefan, I also experience a "stop" that is a sense of "enough" without
taste change. You never get those with honey?

Assuming you are eating all raw and instincto-style, I would think your
body needs something in the honey. I would trust that feeling the
sensation that the honey tastes good. Unless, of course, you aren't
eating all raw and instincto-style or don't have good "stop"
experiences in general. The honey should be unheated, untreated too
(VERY hard to find in the USA) and very important to use if you're going
to have a meal of honey.

I have other thoughts to share - In my practice, I find sweets cravings
are very common, and worse for women than men, and worse for women who
menstruate. I have to think that something hormonal is going on. I
have usually put these patients on natural foods diets, and most of them
have the sweets cravings go away. Sweets cravings in my patients often
are (1) insufficient protein or (2)mineral deficiencies (other health
problems point to which ones). If, after a few weeks, there is no
resolution, I add in local filtered honey. Most are fine on it.

I believe eating raw and instinctively is a must-do to trust a
stop-sensation, however, because for some reason, generally if people
aren't eating raw foods the "stop" function doesn't work very well.
This is very true of people eating pastas, breads and sweets. And,
eating things one at a time until a stop is experienced is the normal
way people first re-learn or re-experience the stop. I, and I think,
most of us never learned to trust our instincts in this manner and it
takes some re-learning, to be aware of what your body does and doesn't
want. When I first started eating a lot more raw foods, I ate
instinctively for several weeks. I ate until I had a taste change on
each item. Then, I started experiencing a "full of that food" feeling
and if I ignored that, the taste change followed very very soon. Now I
try to tune into that milder "stop" instead of waiting for the stronger
one, the taste change. Now I often eat one of two types of meals,
either (1)only a couple of things (tart fruit plus sashimi is a
favorite) or (2)all raw but lots of different things (perhaps salad,
fruit, fish, juice, cole slaw and seaweed in one meal). With both, I
experience "stops". When I eat cooked foods (occassionally brown rice
or perhaps kamut bread), I am very careful to not over-eat them, because
I still don't get a good stop sensations with starches or
sweets which have been cooked, but a few minutes later will feel like I
had too much.

Assuming you ARE getting "stops" with other foods, I would try eating
honey until satiated. How about this, if you aren't, re-learn the "stop"
sensation, then go ahead and enjoy honey until you do get a stop. I'd
also say, talk to the beekeeper and make sure your honey is untreated.
My big thing was eating raw fish. I never thought about eating it until
getting a "stop" until a few months ago, was always "hungry" for it the
way you are always hungry for honey. The first time I did I ate about 5
pounds in two days, and felt sooo good afterwards...

regards, roberta
