San Jose's Planning Commission last month denied the
Preservation Action Council of San Jose's appeal of the plan to
demolish the historic Jose Theatre. Among the voting
commissioners were:

1. One commissioner whose firm has done $1 million of business
from the entity driving for demolition, our own Redevelopment
Agency (as it is a government agency, it seems there are not
legal conflict-of-interest grounds);

2. Another commissioner who said that "the best" preservation
example in Boston, her former home, is a fascade engulfed by a
modern building;

3., 4. Two other commissioners who said that as the City
Council had already made its decision, they didn't think second
guessing it was part of their job.

The vote went 4-1.
