Hello George
 I have a zip a friend gave it to me he had no software with no instructions
but what i always do is shut down all windows but explorer  and install all
software but any way the power must always be on to the drive before or at the
same time as the CPU i have had no problems with my ZIP  my friend had
problems but he installed the accelerator hope you work it out   good luck
