I had  the same problem with a modem.  I checked the resources right click
my computer, click properties, select device manager tab, click modem,
highlight the modem, click properties, select the resources tab.  There was
a confilct in the window with com1.  I changed the interupt to 5 and it
worked fine.  If interupt 5 is used try 7, you must find an intrupt that is
not used.
