What about setting up both drives the same to start with and then put
XCOPY C:\*.* d:/M in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file?
This should copy all changes that you made the LAST time you switched on,
the next time you switch on. Your worst case would then be that you
could lose what you did yesterday if your drive died overnight.
(Unless, of course, some crook steals your system or it burns up in a fire.
That's why backup tapes stored ELSEWHERE are a good idea.)
