cop stop me and ask me if I had been drinking because I was swerving so
much. He simply warned me to keep my eyes on the road instead of on the
scenery."
I put a wonderful bumper sticker on my car in an attempt to deal with this
very problem. The Pennsylvania SHPO has this blue sticker that says "I
brake for historical markers." I brake for all kinds of things, but I hope
the sticker at least alerts people to watch for unpredictable behavior.
Haven't been hit yet, though there have been some close calls with trees,
parked cars, and curbs. Of course I do worry a little when I go out to
site visits to look at controversial decisions when being identified as a
preservationist could be hazardous to your health . . .
I don't understand why people are so picky about watching the road. Most
roads are pretty boring, it's the stuff along them that's neat.
