I think that one of  my finest personal realizations has been that a good
thing about aging is you pretty much have done alot of stuff and can figure
out by now what you do or don't want to do again, if given the choice. At this
point most of us have paid our psychic dues. Embarrassingly, this realization
came to me when faced with digging a 20' L x 4'D x 3'W trench behind my place
upstate. It struck me that,
1, doing it on weekends was going to take six months; 2, I wasn't going to
learn much more about digging than the past 40 trenches dug in my life had
taught me, except maybe the large stone content of the trench area; 3, my butt
was going to be very sore for a long time; 4, I had no place to put the dirt.
I decided to hire someone to do it, DUH. Of course I haven't found anyone
willing to hand dig this thing (maybe everyone is having this epiphany at the
same time!?)
