Gosh, popular demand.

I do not know who originated the idea of soaking nuts; it first came to my attention in Dr. Cousin's book Conscious Eating. In any case my normal seed drink recipe, on a per serving basis, would go something like this:

1/3 - 1/2 cup sunflower seeds- soak overnight

1 Tablespoon flax seed - soak overnight

Cinnamon for flavoring

Cardamom for flavoring and, supposedly, improvement of digestion

Bee pollen - optional

One ripe banana Another piece of fruit -soaked black mission figs is a good tasting choice if fresh not avail.

In the morning rinse the seeds well (this is important) and blend adding a little bit of water. If for consumption later in the day, I usually put the rinsed flaxseeds in water in the refrigerator to prevent rancidity. With sunflower seeds, rancidity does not seem to be a problem and they can be sprouted for the rest of the day if desired, or they can also go in the refrigerator with the flaxseeds.

According to Dr. Cousins the mixture of 1/3 cup sunflower to 1-tablespoon flax is the proper daily amount and proportion of omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids. I occasionally add 2 tablespoons of soaked pumpkinseeds to the seed mix for its oil and zinc content. With the addition of the herbs for flavoring and the ripe fruits for nutrition and sweetness, this is an extremely good tasting meal. I have used this meal on numerous occasions to demonstrate to friends how good tasting raw foods can be. It's a good introduction to raw foods, is easy to make, and is by raw vegan standards, a high calorie meal. Dr. Cousins claims soaked seeds are compatible with fruits, for those of you into food combining.

I usually consume this meal about four times a week. Although I have never found nuts particularly hard to digest, as some people on this list have, if I consume this seed/fruit/herbal meal too often it does seem to lose it's vital nutritional "punch". I find about four times a week is perfect for me. I actually wish I could consume this seed drink more often because raw organic sunflowers and flaxseeds are inexpensive and have a long shelve life if kept in the refrigerator.

The sunflower/ flax combo is my most often-consumed seed combo because of its nutrition, taste, and low cost. Although for flavor, imo, it is hard to beat a soaked almonds/flax/ strawberries combo (unfortunately I find it necessary to pinch the skin of the almonds before blending for maximum flavor). Another tasty combo for the adventures is soaked pumpkinseeds with peaches.

Does anyone make good tasting raw tahini with soaked sesame or day old sesame sprouts? I must admit I still buy tahini in a jar. Seeds are a small but important part of my diet.

Best Regards
