My son was on a lot of antibiotics and developed candida autism.

His yeast levels are now down (cf to 3 years old) but the last urine test
in late March showed that he still had a yeast overgrowth.

Since then he has had even fewer carbs but the yeast I think are still
there. He has shown improvement since May on lower carbs including greater
attention, focus, etc

A lot of parents with these kids (candida autism) put their kids on Nystatin
which is a prescription antifungal. In some of the kids the candida
apparently clears up and if it is done young enough, like before 3 years
old, the autism goes completely away.

My question is, there are pros and cons to a prescription drug of course.
Do people on the list think that the "body can heal itself" and that the
paleo diet can help overcome the candida?

Some researchers say that these kids who were on antibiotics so young, and
had so much yeast, that the yeast DNA actually can become part of the DNA of
the cells of the intestinal lining.

Anyway, it is a tough nut to crack. I would appreciate people's thoughts. My
husband wants him on Nystatin, and we put him on it, and he is suffering
terribly. I can't blame my husband, I also wanted to do it, too, as I was
worried about the tartaric acids produced by yeast, and the continued brain
damage from this poison.

If I do just paleo, he is happier, but I don't feel I am killing the yeast.
They are still in there producing tartaric acid which is a horrible poison
and causes the so called autistic symptoms.

It takes at least 9 months of Nystatin to get the yeast under control if you
are on a gluten free casein free diet, according to Dr Shaw, an author of a
book on yeast and autism. The EARLIEST he has been able to take someone off
of Nystatin is after 9 months. Of course the kids were not on a lo carb diet.

A penny for your thoughts. One of my very bright friends who is a true
believer in paleo says no way, no matter how healthy of a paleo diet you are
on, you will not get yeast under control w/o an antifungal. She got hers
under control with meat/fat (emphasize fat!) and at least 6 weeks of
antifungal, in her case, H2O2. She feels 100% better and is still on an
extremely lo carb diet.

Other paleo people say be patient, the immune system will eventually fight
them off. My own gut feeling is that the yeast became even stronger and
started thriving on meat and fat only. They prefer of course sugar and
carbs but can adapt. I don't see how his immune system can fight something
off that the body may be recognizing as its own cells. The docs in their
wisdom put the poor little guy on antibiotics at birth.

What to do? Do I take him off nystatin or leave him on? Dr Orlon Truss wrote
the original book on yeast and he put men on meat/fat diets PLUS nystatin
and got rid of the overgrowth. His book is a walking advertisement for
Nystatin.

Love to all,

Moira

ps I read the insert with nystatin and there are not any serious side
effects reported, at least in the insert...The side effect I notice with my
son is just pure misery, and this is on a very low dose...

Could I do paleo only with some kind of very mild natural antifungal and
hope for slower yet less painful results? And, what would be a mild natural
antifungal? I've tried raw garlic and it is too potent!
