Is B-P challenging me (and everyone else) to think outside of the usual
engineering disciplines, where technical terms have specific technical
meanings? While I am quite happy to tear my gut feelings out and install
new language modules in the name of personal growth, freedom and
expression, I admit having to kind of struggle with the idea of redefining
efflorescence as a color. 

What color would it be? Should it be limited to white, or should it include
off-whites? How far off-white toward grey would still be OK? What degree of
color uniformity (or non-uniformity) would be implied? Do restoration
contractors see it as green, or at least as the color of bread-and-butter?
If I ship that color to your restoration project will you be equally
open-minded in accepting it as a reasonable match within the limits of
personal expression?
