You are limited by the slots available and the number of segments, hubs,
etc you want to connect to.  My server currently has four pci NIC
connections, one on mb, three cards, serving two segments, a back bone,
and an Internet gateway.  Could add two more if needed.  But with switching
hubs having a multitude of cards in a server is becoming less and less needed.
