Michael:
I have a 486 DX@-66 was purchased in 1996. My Bio is a Phoenix Version
4.03. My understanding is that this is the first Phoenix Bio that allows
for LBA. My first drive was a WDC 420 MB. I later installed a WDC 850
MB.
I entered the Bio Setup and enable LBA Mode and everything worked find.
I have justed puchased a WDC 5.1 GB drive. I believe that I can also
install it with without a Bio upgrade.
Sometime back I checked with Firmware( the Company that you will have to
buy a Phoenix Bio from. Phoenix do not sell directly to the public) and
they wanted a very high price for the upgrade. I do not remember the
price but it was high. If the new drive is not reconized by my Bio I
could use the drive overlay program that WDC provides or I could by a
VLB EIDE controller card. The card would be much cheaper then the Bio
upgrade.
E-mail me if I can be of any help
