Several weeks ago I posted a question concerning a Modem Master 8000
K56Flex modem and a computer system that crashed. I received a few
replies back and thought it would be nice to let everyone know what
happened.
The computer system (I found out after we got the modem) turned out to
be a Cyrix P150. Seems the MM8000 is only guaranteed to work with Cyrix
processors that START at P166, because the modem uses the processor to
perform a lot of the heavy data calculations for the modem to work
efficienctly. Therefore, when this P150 tried to dial into an AT&T
Worldnet ISP at 56K, the system bogged down and crashed. When it went
to Juno (at 33k) it worked fine).
Went back to the original documents and looked up the fine print and lo,
there it was - If you have a Cyrix processor, it must be a P166 or
better.
Next time, I'll read the details better - but before I buy, I'll find
out what the processor speed is before the cash goes out.
Thanks for the help.
