The analogy that I use in my introduction to computers classes is a library
and a person. The library, like the disk space can hold a lot of
information and it is always available when the person needs it, but they
must search for it. On the other hand, any given book can be read and exist
in a persons head [ram], however, there is a limit as to how much can be
readily stored there to be used instantly. You can carry it on from there.

|I have to give a speech explaining the difference between disk
|space and Ram memory. While I understand this topic, I have not
|yet come up with an explanation that my 13 year old daughter can
|grasp.
|Does anyone have an easy to understand analogy for how ram works?
