Jan,
You may not be telling us enough about your computer to help you
with this one.
Personally, I recently experienced this exact problem with my personal
computer. I ran every diagnostics I knew... even bending Drew
Dunn's ear till it near fell off. I replaced nearly every card in the system
in a two week period. No success.
My answer turn out not to be hardware. I use Wingate gateway
software and had recently reinstalled it. I did not have the security
set properly and left it open to the Internet. I had IRC hackers logging
onto my Static IP, into my Wingate server and locking up, even
rebooting my system from the shear volume of the assault.... over
2,500 logins/hacks in four days.
If this is only happening when you are connected to the Internet, I
would consider that it is not hardware. If you are running a lot of
Internet software or specialty Internet software, you might consider
asking this question on our sister mailing list, VPLANETS. You can
get an indepth discussion of your Internet software/hardware on that
list. To subscribe to VPLANETS: check out: http://nospin.com
But, if you feel you are using only basic Internet software... dialer,
browser & email client... then tell us more about your hardware...
so we can make some intelligent suggestions.
