Re: Re-partitioning problem

Compadres,

I've got an old 486 desktop running OS/2 and Win3.1 stuff. It has 2
hard drives which look kinda like:

             ----------------------------------------------------------
             |C:fat16 | boot | E:fat16 | F:hpfs | G:hpfs|
             | primary | mngr | free | OS/2 3.0 | |
Connor 340mb | DOS/Win3.1 | | |OS/2 apps | |
             | 25 MB | 1 mb | 118 mb | 140 mb | 16 mb |
             ----------------------------------------------------------

             ----------------
             |D:fat16 |
             | DOS/Win Apps |
Connor 170mb | 170mb |
             ----------------

I'll probably sell the machine, doubt that anyone will use the OS/2
stuff. I'd first like to re-partition, consolidate non-OS/2 data on
the Connor 340, and use the 170 mb HD on another system.

Po' fellow is in search of a strategy, heah ...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Might it be practical to:

  1.) Run FDISK, re-partition boot mngr, E:, F:, G:.
  2.) Format fat16.
  3.) Re-boot. Re-partitioned space will hopefully be E:
  4.) Xcopy D: E:
  5.) Remove Connor 170
  6.) Re-boot. Re-partitioned space will hopefully be D:

???

If its not practical to make the re-partitioned space come up as D:
I'm out of luck as the file-specs for the DOS/Win Apps are hard-coded
in countless .INI files, etc. No sane person would re-code that stuff.

So is the above gonna save my soul? Or is it a recipe to shoot myself
in the ****?? Your expertise is enlisted!

  TIA,
  David
