I just bought an external CDROM from CDW earlier this week.

I find the external CDROM (8X - Backpack from Microsolutions)
works just fine as a CDROM drive with Windows 95. It works
fastest if you set the printer port in the EPP mode.

The drivers come on 3 floppy disks, so it does not use up a
lot of space on a hard drive.

The built in sound card has problems though. It does not work with
some sounds, although the previous external sound card I had
attached to my notebook computer worked fine with all sounds.

I would recommend the external CDROM WITHOUT the sound
card and not buy the one with one built in. So far their tech
support has been non-responsive.
