Good Folk,

I've been running my new socket-7 PC for about 6 weeks now. The
serial mouse and modem seem to work OK, but the comm ports are not
configured properly.

System:
Tyan S1571 TX motherboard V1.03/Award bios v4.51 PG (PnP)
  Pentium P5 166 mmx cpu
Alleged Fujitsu 64mb SDRAM (1 module)
West. Dig. Caviar 3.2gb UIDE HD
  PnP: Zoom V34I+ 33.6 (56k upgradable) modem
non-PnP: Old Logitech Mouseman Serial Rodent
non-PnP: ISA IDE card for old Creative 2x CD-Rom
  NT WS 4.0 SP3 (w/o hotfixes), a "non-PnP" OS from (Beloved) Microsoft,
    with PNPISA.SYS disabled.

When my NT boots, I look in the Event Log and find:
 Event 3:
User configuration data for parameter COM2 overriding firmware
  configuration data.

 Event 22:
A conflict has been detected between two drivers which claimed two
overlapping Io port regions. Driver Serial, with device
<\Device\Serial10000.Translated>, claimed an IO port range with
starting address in data address 0x28 and 0x2c, and length in data
  address 0x30.

 Event 22:
A conflict has been detected between two drivers which claimed two
overlapping Io port regions. Driver Sermouse, with device
<\Device\PointerPort0.Translated>, claimed an IO port range with
starting address in data address 0x28 and 0x2c, and length in data
  address 0x30.

 Event 11:
The hardware resources for COM1 are already in use by another
  device.

If I could get my comm ports configured the way NT "needs" them, I
would be happy as a clam ...

Presently:
hardware : (mobo) comm1 is connected
            (mobo) comm2 cable is disconnected
            modem is jumpered non-PnP, 2f8, irq3
 bios : onboard uart 1: 3f8/irq4
            onboard uart 2: disabled
            PnP OS installed : no
            resources controlled by : manual
            reset configuration data : disabled
            irq's 3-15, dma0-7 assigned to "legacy isa"
 NT : comm1: 3f8, irq4, fifo enabled, 9600 bps, 8/n/1, no flow
            comm2: 2f8, irq3, fifo enabled, 57600 bps, 7/e/2, XonXoff

I've tried more config's than I can remember. Obviously I'm doing one
or more things wrong. Any help/suggestions etc would be appreciated.

  Zalut,
  David
