   A number of weeks ago I had seen a post and then I later acquired the
same problem -- a computer that halted with "error initializing Windows
device PERF:." during the start up of the machine.

After pulling the modem, sound, video, ram and AMD K5 166....   it was the
K5.


  Just thought you'd all like to know should you ever come across this one
which, by the way didn't appear in any of the hundreds of newsgroups I
searched.
