I inadvertently approved the Packard Bell systems
 post for PCBUILD.

PCBUILD is about building PC's and while it is acceptable to ask for
recommendations for components it is considered OFF TOPIC to ask for or
offer complete system brand name recommendations.

Please reply to Mr. Pike privately and lets keep this off the list.
Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks

Subject: Packard Bell systems

I know PB are a pain to upgrade as a desktop system but what about the tower
systems?
A friend of mine is planning to upgrade (buy new) and the Office Max which
just opened
has several PB's that look promising:

M400 Pent 166, 2.1 GB, 16M EDO, 33.6 modem, 16x CD, 2M video -- $699
L197 Pent 200, 2.1 GB, 16M EDO, 33.6 modem, 24x CD, 1M video -- $899
S606 Pent 233, 4.3 GB, 32M, 56 modem, 20x CD, 2M video -- $899
S605 Pent 233, 3.2 GB, 24M, 33.5 modem, 16x CD -- $899

She plans on using her old monitor until she can afford a new one. I'll
probably
talk her into getting the M400 (cheaper) since she's mostly just gonna surf
unless
someone has had prior bad experience with these. At the moment she's using a
386-16 with 8M RAM and 2*40M hard drives compressed so almost anything
will be an improvment.

If anyone has ANY words of wisdom on these machines I'd like to here them....

Thanx,
Winston
