I know someone else that did this with no lasting ill effects, Although
he realized his mistake right away. You should test the board before
buying another cpu.

The best place I know on the web is Ebay auctions at
http://pages.ebay.com/aw/index.html

Cpu auctions are at:
http://salamander.ebay.com/aw/listings/list/category164/index.html

You have to register and all that, but the availability of AMD DX4/100's
is very good, and occasionally a DX4/120 comes along. If you know
it is the cpu, buy the 100 and save up for a Pentium upgrade.
If you have the luxury, (some sellers won't be able to tell due to heatsink glue)
match your part number to your motherboard. Some boards, (I have one) do
not like write back L1 cache.
A80486DX4-120SV8B. is the write-back L1 cache, SL (low energy) model
                                    last model made.
A80486DX4-120NV8T is the write-thru L1 cache, somewhat slower and older model.
Both are 3 volt chips.

Subject: [PCBUILD] AMD DX4-120 Fried?

A client reinserted a AMD Dx4-120 cpu possibly the wrong
direction in the motherboard slot. Now the machine won't
 even boot.
Would inserting the chip the wrong way neccessarily
  fry the chip?
   I don't think he's going to find a new
 AMD DX4-120 maybe a Intel DX4-100.
Anyone know where to get a new/used.
I know pentium is the way to go, but $$ is the deciding factor.

 Thanks;
