To continue the saga,
ok, i wired as follows, and will change it.....
white orange
orange
white blue
blue
white green
green
white brown (looks red to me)
brown.
everything is fine on the other machines. * BUT * on this 486 machine i
am now trying to hook up..... i installed an ether 16 card, installed
the correct software as on the others and it still won't work. so after
digging around i noticed one of the lights on the card flickers, at best.
there are two lights, one is constant, the other, no matter how much i
play with it will only attain a flicker. not a solid light. i am so
sorry i don't know the correct definitions for you. On the hub, i have
yet to see a connection status for this 486. i have noticed that these
connectors, at best, are not tight fitting as i would have surmised but
it is like that on the other systems with pre-fab cables and connectors.
in network neighborhood all i can see is this computer. the other
computers can't see this machine.
this is a 486 with 12meg running win95A. (by the way)
i pulled the card out and reseated it again, re-installed everything a
few times, cried alot, cursed, prayed, and i don't know what to do next.
at this point i think that the connection itself on the card is to blame.
what next??
thank you all very much.
