>>Why do you think the low carb diet is misnamed?
Simple, it's a high protein, high fat percentages diet.
>>There are many physicians who support said diet.
Big deal. Also many physicians who wouldn't know a Type 2 diabetic
either. You know the undiagnosed percentage: all Type 2s.
No clinical long term trial, either crossover or control group, of this
diet relative to kidney or liver safety. I was amused at that reprint from
the lo-carb list that Don Wiss foisted on the celiac list the other day.
The apparent guru of that list touts the absence of reports of adverse
effects from those using the diet. <sigh> Absence of evidence is not
evidence of absence. Bernstein once personally agreed with me on that. He
was also sighing that day over what it would take in the way of record
keeping if he were to run a clinical trial, especially to include the data
from his patients along with control data which he doesn't have.
>>but when you get right down to it--no "sanctioned diabetes diet" out

No guarantees for the individual from any clinical trial results since
they give averages. So you have to rely on those. But still there are high
carb trials-- I'd have to dig a bit to find but my starting point would be
the annual guidelines for physicians appearing in Diabetes Care.
